Blue Word Studio’s rates are fair and competitive. The process will begin with a free assessment of your work and conversation about your needs and goals.
Examine the strengths and weaknesses of your project as a whole, paying particular attention to structure, pace, character development (are they believable, do we like them), voice, plot, style, verisimilitude.
Substantive editing will focus on flow, clarity, transitions, and identifying holes or redundancies in the manuscript. This may include restructuring or reorganizing material, or even starting over.
Mechanical services include a thorough line edit and/or copy edit, concentrating on format, style, layout, consistency, grammar, syntax, usage, diction, and factual accuracy.
Nonfiction
Assess and research subject matter in collaboration with scholars and specialists on full-length manuscripts either currently represented by an agent or publisher, or with the hopes of securing an agent or publisher.
Memoir and Fiction
Work closely and in confidence with authors to organize notes, journals, and events, and create a detailed outline of the project, before ghostwriting full-length manuscripts.
Collaborate with authors and screenwriters to create story and treatment, secure rights (when needed), adapt books to film, and pitch projects.
Develop a strategy and timeline for each project.
Create a strong book proposal once you are ready to submit your manuscript.
Devise a marketing and publicity plan for further visibility.
Act as liaison between agent and/or publisher.
Work with authors to secure publishing contracts.
Proofread final galleys before going to press.
